Batteries & Charging System
Nike IV has three separate banks of batteries - all new.
Engine Batteries
Which consist of one bank with two maintenance free batteries SeaVolt with total
capacity of 220 Ah. This batteries are dedicated only for running main
engine and its instruments and accessories like separate fuel pump and fuel
level measurement. They are charged by main engine Hitachi 80A alternator, but
could be charged as well by diesel generator just by turning a selector switch
on. In a case of emergency, the power of this batteries could be enhanced by
connection with running batteries (bank A, bank B, or both) just using a
selector battery switch. The boat comes with spare new Hitachi 80A alternator.
Working Batteries

Consist of two banks of Deep Cycle 105 SeaVolt batteries. One bank (A or 1) has
three batteries of total capacity of 315 Ah. The second bank (B or 2) has
two batteries of total capacity of 210 Ah. The Batteries could be charged by
Kubota Diesel Generator, by main engine alternator or at the shore by Hearth
Inverter/Charger. Each bank could be charged separately or together.
The negative terminals are connected together. The positive terminals are secured by fuses and are connected to Batteries selector switches. There is one extra connection ready for use with wind-water-additional alternator-or-solar charging system.
Battery Switches

Number of selector switches allows different combination for charging as well as
for using them. Any bank could be used for running electronics and at the same
time the other bank could run SSB Radio, Autopilot, Refrigerator and vice versa.
Voltmeters and Ammeters give you full control over theirs status.

Diesel Generator

Kubota EA 200-NB/4.4 HP/2600RPM/3.3 kW diesel engine/generator with 80A (one
cable) alternator is located at aft compartment. The engine is air cooled but
the exhaust is cooled by sea water. It serves as a handy generator. The
system has a separate fuel tank, filled by fuel system from main tank. It has
control box with key turning start system and ampere meter providing information
on output. If needed, a second alternator could be added.
